Augmentin (amoxicillin-clavulanate)

Augmentin medicine is used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin interferes with the growth and division process of the bacterial cell wall while clavulanic acid ensures extended anti-bacterial activity. This combination is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs and airways, middle ear, sinuses, skin, and urinary tract.

Use

You can take Augmentin with or without food. However, to avoid stomach upset, it is best to take this medicine at the beginning of a meal or breakfast. Augmentin acid is a combination of penicillin-type antibiotic that is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic only treats bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu).

Side effects

Some of the major side effects of augmentin: allergic skin reaction, diarrhea. Fever, joint pain, skin yellowing, easy tearing and bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, tooth discoloration, nausea or vomiting, muscle or joint pain, sleepiness, irregular heartbeat

Precautions

These drugs can cause severe allergies, along with a hypersensitivity reaction, which can be severe. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanate can cause diarrhea, and in some cases, it can be severe. It may be two months or additional when you stop the abuse with these drugs. Do not take any medicines for the treatment of diarrhea without doing a preliminary check with your doctor. In some young patients, discoloration of teeth may occur while using this medicine. Teeth may resemble brown, yellow, or brown spots. To help prevent this, brush and floss your teeth regularly or clean your teeth. Amoxicillin and clavulanate combination may decrease the results of some oral contraceptives (birth management pills). To avoid getting pregnant, use another type of contraceptive.
